Jim is extremely messed-up, to put it lightly. As a criminal mastermind, his main goal is to operate behind the scenes so that no one can get to him. This means that 99% of the time, the person other characters meet is one of his aliases, not his true self. Once he chooses an alias to use with a person, he will consistently present as that alias to them! Because of this, there are themes of overall deception present at any given time.

This post not only serves as my HMD, but to break down how I play Jim from a meta/OOC point of view, list any potential trigger topics, and allow players to opt out on either specific topics or all CR. There is also a second form that allows players to submit details that Jim can observe/deduce from looking at or speaking to their characters, for ease of threading. This isn't mandatory by any means, just a resource if folks want it.

OOC Modus Operandi

Above all, I want this to be a fun experience for everyone involved ... hence my being so granular and transparent in this post! I'm not a horrible, manipulative sack of lies, I just play one on the internet.

On The Network: Jim has four network usernames, and each belongs to either an alias or a concept:

• [RBrook] - Richard Brook (actor, pianist, your gay pal)
• [SMoran] - Seb Moran (former colonel, security expert)
• [Godless] - General anonymous username
• [CleverMoniker] - The Real Deal, the handle he uses for himself.

As a general rule, Moriarty scans the RSDOS network at least once a day: so odds are good that if you said something publicly, he's seen it. He is, however, limited to usernames unless a public conversation thread provides a real name, so anonymous and alternate nicknames will not be deduced without player permission. If he sees an opportunity to act as a consulting criminal, he will privately message the character in their IC Inbox. That being said, I do not always have time to read every single thing!! So I will occasionally reach out and ask if there are things he should have noticed/be aware of.

Schemes & Plans: I do not have Moriarty make plans against a character without the mun's express permission! This may also extend to close CR, and I want to make sure that everyone involved in a plot point or event is on the same page and comfortable with it from the start. If at any point this changes, I am more than willing to find a way to ICly end the situation, or delete back to a point where things can be reworked to suit the players' comfort level.

The Perils of Playing A Criminal Genius: Just because Moriarty's a freakin' supergenius with a photographic memory and a mind like a Saw trap does not mean that my brain is up to par! I'm neurodivergent and occasionally have difficulty expressing my thoughts completely - if something seems unclear, if I've missed a detail, if I get some random fact or bit of game meta wrong in an emote ... please let me know! The good thing about Jim's strategy is that both aliases can Be Wrong about things and come across as looking scatterbrained - which allows for a lot of "no, I meant to do that". I'm most concerned with these sort of false steps when he's acting as himself.
